And do not be put off by the challenge: follow these handy tips below and before you know it you will be looking forward to turning bathrooms into a shiny haven!

Bathroom Cleaning Procedures For Housekeeping Staff

Firstly, remember that every bathroom is unique and different for every client, household, hotel or yacht you might be working on. So you should treat the cleaning of it with a unique approach. Never fully generalise cleaning! And know that different demands and styles will be required for different locations.

However, there are some general rules and approaches when dealing with management and housekeeping of the bathroom. This is a helpful step to step guide to start.

Step To Step Cleaning Guide

  1. Always ensure any rubbish or items which do not belong in the bathroom are removed.
  2. The bathroom area should always go back to its ‘neutral state’. Therefore you should always collect items which don’t below in there and gather them to return to their ‘homes.’
  3. Look up! Often ceilings and corners are missed and this is typically where cobwebs might grow. Regularly clean and inspect all light fittings and fixtures.
  4. Be aware of special surfaces. Typically you will find marble, chrome and enamel in the bathroom. Clean according to the surface.
  5. Clean toilets with care and with the correct products. As they are typically an area where bacteria can gather. You should always wear protective gloves to ensure you get into all the nooks and crannies. And don’t forget to pay special attention to the floor in front of the toilet where spills often occur.
  6. Clean the shower, using the correct products as per the surfaces.
  7. Properly clean the bath, using the correct products as per the surfaces.
  8. Thoroughly clean the sink(s), using the correct products as per the surfaces.
  9. Clean the mirrors, using the correct products as per the surfaces.
  10. Ensure drains are clear from hair and other debris. If they have become clogged you
can buy specialist drain cleaner, but be careful as this is non-ecological and can damage pipes.
  11. Check if the toilet has a septic tank (country properties, yachts etc). As chemicals can damage the septic tank. You must take care that only human waste goes down the toilet. And no strong chemicals as it will kill the septic bacteria and this will be a costly exercise to replace the septic tank.
  12. Using a wet rag wipe under and across all the surfaces, including window sills, and any areas not covered above.
  13. Dust.
  14. Vacuum/Hoover.
  15. Mop.
  16. Air the room.
