A day in the life of a Housekeeper

Published on October 5, 2022

Have you ever wondered what a typical life as a domestic housekeeper includes?  Read on to learn about what Julia’s typical day is like, working in a beautiful country estate, for a lovely family of four.

9am

I arrive at 9am, and after a quick check of the kitchen and light tidy up of any dishes from the night before, I head up to the bedrooms to check and inspect and gather any laundry which is needed to be done.  I ensure that all laundry is gathered and put into the utilities with the laundry started.  Then I start with the living room and work around the house, making sure that all family items left out by the children or dogs have been put back to their ‘home’ and doing a general tidy.

11am

Now I start the deep clean, and as I go through the house, I check back on the laundry to hang it out and put on any new loads of washing needing to be done.  The madam of the house has left a note for me to handwash some delicate tops, so I’ll do this after lunch.  After a quick play with the dogs and letting then out to have a toilet break, I start the deep cleaning.  Working from top to bottom, I clean each room.  Making sure all dusting, hoovering and cleaning is done.  Always lifting things up and cleaning under them.  I notice that a bulb is out in the living room and I message the madam to let her know that I have messaged the electrician to come and change it as they have a special smart home, and lights need changing by a certified electrician.

1pm

I stop for lunch, enjoy a cup of tea and catch up on some social media.

1:30pm

Back to work, I’m on top of the laundry, but now I do the handwashing that madam has left for me.  I also iron sir’s shirts and make sure that they are correctly hung in his cupboard.  I then complete the deep cleaning in the house.

3:30pm

Time to take the dogs for a walk, they are only little but enjoy a stretch of their legs around the country estate.

4pm

I sit down to do some household admin, from placing the food order and ensuring that the post is unwrapped and items left out for madam and sir to see on their arrival home.  Now I start to prep the meal for when the children and parents come home.  Tonight I’m cooking a home made spaghetti bolognaise with a wonderful garden salad.

6pm

I feed the dogs and then the family arrive home at 6:15pm.  A quick chat with the madam and the family sit down to eat at 6:30pm

6:30pm

As I leave I take the bins out as they are being collected in the morning.  The family thank me and wish me a lovely evening.  I say goodbye to them and the dogs.
